In August of 2024, my mom, Rhonda, was rushed to the hospital because she was very ill. It was determined at our local hospital that she had a severe infection in her kidney and needed to see a nephrologist. The closest nephrologist department that wasn't overloaded was in Osceola, so she was sent there by ambulance. They determined that not only did she have a severe infection but a tumor. They needed to remove the entire right kidney. She went into surgery, they removed her kidney, and she started to improve.
A lot happened between then and now... a lot that had nothing to do with my mom's physical health... I may say something about that at another time. However, a few months ago, she had some bloodwork that came back a little worrisome. So, the doctor sent her for a PET scan. She has lesions on her ribs. So far, one rib on either side of her chest. We are sent to see an oncologist who tells us that she has stage 4 kidney cancer that has metastasized to her ribs. The doctor is pretty sure of this but he needs to get a biopsy, ASAP, of one of those lesions before we can start treatment. It took a lot to get her biopsy, which is this Friday, April 11.
As you may be aware, cancer is expensive. My mom is on disability. Has been on disability for a long time. So, she has a fixed income due to this and the cost of tests and treatments and medicines is not completely covered by her insurance. There are also the other expenses that may not be thought of... transportation, comfort, and in-home assistance.
I am doing what I can to help my mom but I don't have enough money to take care of all these things. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
